OUR STORY
Two founders. One stubborn idea. Fifteen years of quiet momentum
How a small New Zealand software company ended up running fuel networks across five countries.
THE BEGINNING
Built to solve a problem we'd lived with
Glassbox started the way most good software does: two people inside an industry got sick of how things worked. Brendan and Mike had both spent years in fuel retail. They'd seen the fragmented systems, the manual reconciliation, the endless phone calls between head office and the forecourt. Nothing talked to anything. Nobody had a real-time view of what their own network was doing.
So they built the thing they wished they'd had. A single platform that could sit above the mess of hardware on a forecourt, pull everything into one view, and give operators genuine control over their network. They called it Head Office, because that's what it was. A head office, on a screen.
From one customer to an industry
What started as a solution for one fuel network quickly became useful to others. Word travelled the way it does in fuel, one operator telling another. Before long, Head Office was running sites across New Zealand. Then unmanned forecourts. Then multi-site retail groups. Then airports.
Every new customer pushed the platform further. Hardware agnostic by necessity, because no two networks ran the same gear. Multi-tenant because the big operators needed it. Cloud-hosted because nothing else would scale. The software grew the way our customers grew, one real problem at a time.
The world came looking
We never set out to be a global company. The work came to us. First Australia, then Papua New Guinea. Then the call from Costco, one of the most demanding retailers on earth, which wanted Glassbox running across their sites in New Zealand, Australia, and eventually North America. Today we're live in five countries, across networks big and small, running behind 1,200 endpoints and more than 2,000 pumps.
A nimble company with big responsibility
Some of the biggest names in fuel trust Glassbox to keep their networks running. That's not something we take lightly. Every line of code, every support call, every product decision still comes from the same place it did fifteen years ago: people inside the industry, building software they'd want to use themselves.
Still pioneering. Still relentless
The fuel industry is changing. Electric is coming. Unmanned is growing. Compliance is tightening. Networks need to be smarter, leaner, more connected. We're building for all of it. The next fifteen years of Glassbox will look different to the last, but the job is the same: powerful solutions to impossible problems, built by people who actually know the industry they serve.
